Philosophy Pythagoras and Plato

1.Philosophy Pythagoras & Plato
The Pythagorean philosophy influenced by Orpheus with some mysticism factors. Greek philosophy start mathematical tradition from Pythagorean. Pythagorean used mathematical music law to generate the concept of harmony after the ancient Greek philosopher. Pythagoras also know as traditional knowledge of the Pythagorean theorem ( also known as the Pythagorean theorem ) first discoverer.

Pythagoras combined Milesian School and number theory. He believe that there are many but limited world, and insisted that the earth is round, but he abandoned the geocentric theory of Milesian School.

Pythagoras also produce a later theory of ideas and total phase theory. He comes out a rational explanation of things and the things perceived difference. The idea has been dominated philosophical and theological thinking by Plato.

2.Read Greece & Rome
The Greece and Rome always confused by people, but both of them have differences. This 2 country located at Mediterranean but they have different social class and mythology about it. In 5th century BC, Greece was thrived but Rome did not thrive for hundreds of the years. So , it is believed that much of the things and issues of what Rome used in daily life was adopted from the ancient Greece civilization, however with minor alternations.

In this society, the Greece can be separate in 5 part: slaves, freeman, metics, citizens and women. In Greece society, the women are treated as lesser individual. A rather women were considered citizens, if there were not born into slavery, however they were not able to hold political offices or vote .

The Greek were incorporating in3 different architechture styles: Corinthian, Doric and Ionic. A Greek architecture is inspired  the Romans, this is because it turn adopted Grecian style however they incororated arches and aqueducts in their buildings. Greek love to use famous people as a sculpture while Roman more focus on the building architecture design and technique. Greek use the materials like plaster, wood, marble and metals to create their architecture. While Rome use some of the same materials , they use concrete as a new building material, something the Greek never had before.

Greece and Rome is the famous on the mythology and social development. A famous manuscrpit The Iliad , produced by Greeks. this is a similarity approximately 700 years later, the Roman produced The Aeneid. This created mythological differences between both of them, the values of the eople and their outlook of life. A Greek always  focus on their behavior until now, they never planning on the life after they died. Whereas a Romans believed that if they were ideal and model citizens they could become Gods in the after life.
At the last, the differentiate between Greece and Rome is the festival. Rome's festival that represented something for the King or rules on that time but in Greece it was mostly the sport festivals for example the Olympic games. The Olympic Games took every 4 years and had 5 events for example wrestling, running, chariot races, jumping, and the javelin.

3.Research Rome & Byzantium
The Roman empire under Constantine (the Great) moved it's Imperial Capital to a small town called Byzantium which had been suitably embellished and expanded then given the Constantinople.

During the reign of Dioclecian the administrtive and militry burdens on the Empire were found to be too great for a single location to control. Hence both the military and administrtion were split between Constantinople and Rome, with, and this is the important part, the Emperor in Constantinople, but a second subsidiary 'Emperor' in Rome.

The Eastern Empire was much more viable economically than the west, and a lot of in fighting occurred between the two 'emperors' (and their subordinates). Eventually given human nature, the two sides broke apart formally as well as in actuality.

Hence the question, which is the Roman Empire?

In my view - the Byzantinie Empire IS the Roman empire, there is no difference between the two. The fact that the capital moved to Constantinople is irrelevent. The confusion arises due to the existance of a state with it's capital in Rome also calling itself the Roman Empire.

BTW - a historian would probably pull my summary apart but I've tried to keep it brief and, in outline, it is correct. Reality (as usual) was a lot more complex.

1. What is your bliss?
My bliss is something that doesn't cost any money. It does not mean distracting yourself from what feels uncomfortable. For instance, spending time with family and friends. Family and friends are the important part of our bliss. I treasure every moment spending with them.

2. What is monomyth?
Monomyth is the hero's journey that describes a number of stages along the journey. According to the Oracle Education Foundation Library, there are 12 steps to the hero's journey. The 12 steps are ordinary world, call to adventure, refusal to the call, meeting with the mentor, crossing the first threshold, tests, allies, enemies, approach, ordeal, reward and the road back.

3. What is beautiful? What is ugly? why?

The image of the most beautiful thing for our group is sunrise. Every sunrise of the day is a new start for us. It also means yesterday had passed. Sunrise makes us aware that a new day has start and we can do better than yesterday. It's beautiful because sunrise is also a suitable and good time for us to think/meditate.

The most ugly thing for us is seeing someone needs help but nobody seems to care about it. The reason that we think that this is ugly is because people without compassion/sympathy makes our society become ugly. People are usually selfish, they only care about themselves. Therefore, we have to communicate and learn to help others.

4. What is the relationship between your concept of beauty and ugliness and the monomyth?

Monomyth in modern life is adventure has had terrific impact on my personal development, and it's apparent that it can also serve you.The beauty and ugliness come to my mind when the last confirmation came from a conversation I had with a woman sitting next to me at a conference. She was about my age and was open, friendly and vibrant. There was a spark about her that you don’t always see, and I was definitely intrigued by her company. You know those people that seem to shine just a bit brighter; there is a charisma about them. She exuded a peace and certainty in trusting life. As we were chatting I wondered what she did. I kind of imagined that she was a personal development coach, or health practitioner or maybe a teacher. I certainly didn’t expect the answer she gave me. There was a time many years ago that I would not have been so surprised by such an answer. It was when I was verging on adult and felt quite invincible in the face of life. Anything seemed possible. You've probably felt that sense of wonder at some point in your life. The world and the boundless potentials within it seem so brilliant. You glimpse a magnificent sense of your own indomitable free spirit, and you know that it's all right to trust life. That is the place where the hero dwells. And it was at that time when I was in touch with that 'space' that the monomyth story first made it's appearance in my life. It's relevance in our modern lives has since became blatantly apparent. It's the heroes inside of us everyday people that cause extraordinary things that change the world... positive change that we had no way of previously comprehending or hoping to witness without accepting the hero's call to adventure. The person your hero will be saving first and foremost is yourself. In turn, there are magnificent repercussions on others and the world around us.She was an everyday person, yet fully aware of being much more than a stack of limiting conditions. She had learned that by trusting life and acting in concert with creation, transformational miracles occur. Many things that happen in our lives carry strong life lessons for our personal development. They deliver aha moments, and new ways of being that we then carry with us into our future.

Group research

Joseph John Campbell (March 26, 1904 – October 30, 1987) was an American mythologist, writer and lecturer, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work is vast, covering many aspects of the human experience. His philosophy is often summarized by his phrase: "Follow your bliss."

What does it mean to follow your bliss
-to do those things that bring you joy - follow what brings you joy.

Joseph Campbell's "Monomyth" from his book The hero with a thousand faces
-Campbell describes a number of stages or steps along this journey. The first section of the story is aobut the separation of the hero from the normal world. Separation has symbolic echo of infant transition away from the mother and so has a scary feel to it. In the main part of the story the hero is intiated into true heroic stature by various trials and rites. Through daring and battle, the true character emerges. After initiation the hero can cleansed and return in triumph to deserved recognition, although this in itself may not be without its trials and tribulations. As with other frameworks, Campbell receives his fair share of criticism, typically that not all stories are like this. His much-admired and much-copied pattern has also been criticized as leading to 'safe' movie-making, in which writers use his structure as a template, thus leading to 'boring' repeats, albeit in different clothers. The same has been said about Shakespeare, of course, as well as other classic writers.

Myth= deep symbolic truth that crosses between consciousness and uncounsciousness

Caril Jung's Theory of archetypes
Archetypes= An innate tendency which molds and transform the individual consciousness. A fact defined more through a drive than through specific inherited contents, images etc.

The archetype concpet - derives from the often repeated observation that myths and universal literature stories contain well defined themes wchich appear every time and everywhere.

Stages of the Hero's Journy
There are twelve steps to the hero's journey. According to the Oracle Education Foundation Library, those steps are as follows.

1. Ordinary World : This step refers to the hero's normal life at the start of the story, before the adventure begins.

2. Call to Adventure : The hero is faced with something that makes him begin his adventure. This might be a problem or a challenge he needs to overcome.
3. Refusal of the Call: The hero attempts to refuse the adventure because he is afraid.
4. Meeting with the Mentor: The hero encounters someone who can give him advice and ready him for the journey ahead.
5. Crossing the First Threshold: The hero leaves his ordinary world for the first time and crosses the threshold into adventure.
6. Tests, Allies, Enemies: The hero learns the rules of his new world. During this time, he endures tests of strength of will, meets friends, and comes face to face with foes.
7. Approach: Setbacks occur, sometimes causing the hero to try a new approach or adopt new ideas.
8. Ordeal: The hero experiences a major hurdle or obstacle, such as a life or death crisis.
9. Reward: After surviving death, the hero earns his reward or accomplishes his goal.
10.The Road Back: The hero begins his journey back to his ordinary life.
11. Resurrection Hero - The hero faces a final test where everything is at stake and he must use everything he has learned.
12.Return with Elixir:  The hero brings his knowledge or the "elixir" back to the ordinary world, where he applies it to help all who remain there.

How does the the shift from a hunter-gathering economy to an agricultural change human society?
The earliest humans probably lived primarily on scavenging, not actual hunting. By the late Paleolithic, human groups practiced mixed hunting and gathering. The surviving technology of this period consists of stone tools, the earliest of which date back more than two million years. Later Paleolithic human culture also featured artistic elements. The most impressive early works of art were cave paintings that may have had religious significance. It is also possible that these early works of art were primitive calendars or counting systems. This specialization of work also involved creating specialized tools like fishing nets and hooks and bone harpoons. While most human societies at the end of the Paleolithic period migrated in pursuit of game, some groups were more sedentary. More stable groups harvested wild grains that grew in profusion near their settlements, and some of these societies progressed to true farming by domesticating plants and animals. Some of these groups subsequently reverted to hunting and gathering, suggesting that humans developed different strategies that produced sufficient quantities of food. Only those groups that adopted agriculture proved capable of producing civilizations. Hunting and gathering groups were limited to about 30 people and required extensive amounts of territory to support themselves. Migratory groups tended to live in the open rather than in caves and probably developed a sense of territoriality over the lands that produced their food. Labor was organized by gender males were responsible for hunting and protection of the group, while females gathered food from plants. As the number and size of agricultural societies increased, they expanded into lands traditionally used by hunter-gatherers. While no one knows for certain what conditions caused the shift from hunting and gathering to sedentary agriculture, changes in the climate may have been significant factors. It
is also probable that increases in human population prompted changes in food production.

What does it means about daily life?
Daily life mean all the things that happen or that you do regularly.

Many hunter-gatherers consciously manipulate the landscape through cutting or burning undesirable plants while encouraging desirable ones, some even going to the extent of slash-and-burn to create habitat for game animals. These activities are on an entirely different scale than those associated with agriculture, but they are nevertheless domestication on some level. Today, almost all hunter-gatherers depend to some extent upon domesticated food sources either produced part-time or traded for products acquired in the wild.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF ART, HISTORY AND DESIGN

History
Is recorded a process of life. For my opinion , i think history is recorded a person who was done something  can influence the other people. Besides, history can record the thing we have been done in our daily life. when we were writing dairy , we will wrote what thing happen today? what it cause us change our mind think? what we will do after this thing happen? all this is our personal history recorded.

Art
Is come from human's perceptive. All different knowledge, experience, thought  can figure out by Art. For example Music instrument can express a person feel, sad, happy by playing the melody of music. Drawing also can express thought and sees of a person by draw out what we see, idea.
The problem, i realize is not all people can understand what we have figure out, For example i am play a sad song to express my sad feeling, but after somebody heard the song, what they heard is different from me. They will think that is a happy song. Another example I am drawing a tree by looking a real tree, after i finished drawing .The tree is not exacly the same with the real tree because i dawn it, and not exacly copying it. People will think the drawing must exactly same with the real tree, that only perfect and nice. I was confuse about this.

Design
Come from idea, thoughts, creative , skill of a person. Idea can be transform to more thing. Thought is perspective of a person. Creative is come from thought  and creating more idea.Skill is how we figure out our thought, idea by drawing or other media.

I can see everything freak they create especially the willenden dorf. My lecturer telling us to get out from this country to foreign, try to learn and see the thing in other country. 3.I hope to learn what History could offer to novices like me,such as technique, inspiration, and knowledge on what I am learning in this course. After all, only by looking back at our past will we be able to see our future.
4.I think it is necessary, because it is where the fundamentals of art and design originates.Without knowing art's history, how are we suppose to learn how to apply their knowledge and wisdom into our designs and works. We would not be able to step forward without it.
5. I think the most beautiful thing is the innocence of a child.Because, they are the most purest and cutest on earth.(my view of course)Seriously, could you get angry with that face?
6.I know what your thinking, how could this creature be ugly?Well, its not.The ugly I am talking about here is animal poaching. The picture shown here is for the sake of  not showing the gore.As you all know, rhinos are hunted for their horns. The act of killing an exquisite creature,to me is ugly because these animals aren't suppose to die this way.

 6. The most ugly thing to me is when someone need help, nobody is willing to help. People always tend to care about only themselves. Its actually very scary when people doesn't have compassion.

Meaning of history, art & design
1. History is the event that had happened. We couldn't change history. Therefore, people have to be responsible to what they have done every moment. So that, it will not be a bad history or bad impression for other people. History is like time, we cannot rewind or replay. Everything we see, listen, feel are also history.

2. Everybody have their own opinion and viewpoint of what art is. There is no good or bad in art because everybody's aesthetic is different. Any thing or object can be an art. For example, paintings, photography, songs, films, and objects, we can consider all of these are arts. We may need our own imagination to understand art.

3. Design is the process of conformation before art piece or art work is done. Design is about making things become interesting. To design things, it require our creativeness.

History - the word come from Greek, meaning inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation. The word entered the english language in 1390 with the meaning of relation incidents, story. In Middle English, the meaning was "story" in general. Francis Bacon used the term in the late 16th century, when he wrote about "Natural History". 1)WHAT IS HISTORY? ART? DESIGN
HISTORY literally it can be divided into 'his' and 'story' that means relate (a story of man). But we known history of the means a thing of past and outdated things so that is not related about 'his' and 'story' both of words. Actually after my research from internet, i found a interesting for definition of history that means 'history' is come from the French 'historic' and is that European and American feminists did say that history is these words of 'his story'. Not only that, but expect to be able to history making 'herstory' .But here history, 'his story' and 'her story' is just words games in order to highlight the feminists want to to express issues.
The information is come from (blog.roodo.com/badmojo/archives/8455157.html)

The meaning of ART that 'art and design' and this word has a very profound feeling of history. it seems to us from art analysis or to find out a great things of historical value and information. But art word also can divided to -- fine art painting , sculpture or the liberal arts, humanities.

DESIGN in noun mean that a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or working of a building, garment, or other object before it is built or made. And the meaning of verb that purpose, planing, or intention that exists or is thought to exists behind an action ,fact, or material object. in fact, the word 'design' and 'art' are connected that art design cannot be separated in a job.

5.The most beautiful thing for me is body painting, and this is my first piece of body paintingI think that is a very mysterious, we can take advantage of different actions and different eyes, to express the feeling of our hearts. In our human body, we have the muscle to show us the lines, is a kind of aesthetics, a very beautiful feeling.
